For most professional traders, switching from discrectionary trading to system trading is a big step and my opinion is in the right direction. Van tharp's book is the starting place for any budding systems designer and is very popular in the systems design circuit. Many trading system software vendors openly praise this book as a cornerstone of their software.

Van Tharp introduces the reader nuts and bolts of system design. Core concepts like  opportunity, expectancy, types of systems, risk management..etc are discussed in detail. A whole chapter is devoted for the crucial topic of position sizing and it's effect on trading results. This book requires intense study and of course requires good trading system software to implement these ideas.

In my view, This is one of the top 3 system trading books ever written and a permanent reference for system designers.
